TL DR - when I buy a Mac I fully expect to get five years out of it as a primary computer. While I could have had Apple fix it, I didn't like the price of $630 and just bought a MacBook Air for $1000. My 2007 iMac suffered a logic board failure at about five years of heavy usage. I don't see the battery, DVD drive, and HDD as ending its life since all are fairly easy to replace/fix. While I can see their point, it can still do what it did when new so it is a functional machine. Generally my Mac book (often in safari too) is very slow. The Apple TV app movie playback test measures battery life by playing back HD 1080p content with display brightness set to 8 clicks from bottom. And often my Logic Pro X crashed, black display and its very jerky when I am in Logic. I have an Apple Samsung 256 GB SSUBX SSD which when installed in a 13' MacBook Pro Retina 2014 delivers 1,300-1,450 MB/s Read-Write, whereas when installed in newer 15' MacBook Pro Retina 2015 only provides 650-750 MB/s (both measured with Black Magic Design Disk Speed Test).
